Welcome to our quarterly e-newsletter with information and updates specifically for the sport sector.
As winter sports start to wind up, the summer sports are busy preparing for pre-season. Having a break between seasons is needed by the athletes and their families but sometimes coaches are very eager to get underway and put pressure on athletes to start pre-season early. We encourage you to read our pre-season guidelines resource linked in this newsletter and share it with your coaches.
Following on from the success of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the previous Women's World Cup events (Cricket and Rugby), how will sport convert the interest levels shown and provide opportunities to leverage off these legacy events? This is a question that we’ll address at our Regional Conference on 12 October as part of a programme of speakers covering Diversity and Inclusion with a focus on gender and equity. You will also find links to resources in this newsletter on how to keep girls in sport.
In this edition we cover; what you can apply for in a grant application, a link to our new resource an e-guide for sports parents, coach development and community of practice, child safeguarding, outcomes from the Nuku Ora event review, what’s happening in the Wairarapa, an update on the Affordable Sports Review, and more!
School holidays take place from Monday 25 September to Friday 6 October. During the first week (25-29 Sept), the Nuku Ora Board has approved closing our office as a trial initiative to support staff wellbeing. As advocates for health and wellbeing, the staff are definitely appreciative of our organisation ‘walking the talk’!
